The importance of choosing your wedding hair expert

Updated: Aug 22, 2021

Congratulations you’re engaged! What’s next... your venue, selecting a photographer, finding your dream dress (hopefully at Gina Lou Bridal) and soon after you’re choosing your bridal hairdresser and makeup artist!

How do you choose your wedding hair stylist?

Firstly, do you know what style you would love to have? All hair stylists will specialise in different types of wedding hair, from natural loose styles or traditional sculpted through to hair down or vintage. If you have a particular look you are thinking about then it is important to ensure your chosen stylist caters for that style. And, most importantly, can do it well!

Check their credentials

I recommend checking their reviews and any images of their previous work. Do they have any recognitions or awards? Have then been recommended to you? All of these will help you narrow down your search!

Establishing a strong relationship

It’s so important to love your suppliers and ensure you get on with them. On your wedding morning they’ll be the ones on hand, they’ll be there to calm your nerves and go the extra mile to help out when time is so precious!

Make sure you have a good consultation, take lots of images, take a picture of your dress, veil, hair accessories and ask all the questions you need to in order for you to get the most from the hairdresser you have chosen.

I always recommend to my brides that we meet before they book me, after all I will be a part of the biggest day of their life so far!

I always say it’s the beginning of your journey and by the wedding day I will completely know you, I’ll know what you like and don’t like and we’ll have been in contact throughout. I love to get an email trail going so we can build up a mini portfolio; by your trial I will know exactly what you want. Along the way I will always be there to offer advice, help you with other suppliers, help you chose accessories/veils and advise on any hair troubles.

The importance of a trial

A trial important incase you want to change anything so on the wedding morning we know how to get your perfect look! We can discuss colour, extensions (if needed), when to wash your hair, what products are necessary, when to cut your hair amongst many other ways to ensure you have the perfect wedding hair.

By your trial date we will either be able to work on perfecting your chosen style, or experiment on what suits and what doesn’t. I always recommend this being booked on the same day as your make up trial and a dress fitting so you can see your whole look together. Luckily, we can offer both a hair trial and a dress fitting here at Gina Lou Bridal.

Your wedding morning

The wedding morning arrives and preparations are underway, all of a sudden everything feels real and the nerves kick in, the excitement and butterflies in your stomach start whilst you’re surrounded by your closest girls and chosen suppliers.

It really can be a crazy time and often brides can feel very overwhelmed, all of a sudden they are in a private room getting into their gown with their chosen loved one - it’s a very special experience. I’m usually called before anybody else sees the dress to place the veil or help get the bride dressed if emotions are running high and stress kicks in!! It’s a real privilege to share this moment with my brides too.

I love stepping back out into the room where the bridal party awaits to see the big reveal, there’s always so many tears!!

A bride is always beautiful because they beam with confidence when the whole look comes together and I’m so proud that I can contribute to making each bride feel so special on their big day.
